Mushfiqur, who has played the most number of 97 Test matches in Bangladesh’s history, silenced his critics by scoring a timely century.
After struggling with poor form for 13 innings without a single half-century, the veteran has bounced back in the last few years with grit and purpose.
The 38-year-old has fond memories of Galle, where he smashed a brilliant double hundred in 2013 and once again troubled the Sri Lankan bowlers.
He also had a bit of luck – debutant Tharindu Rathnayake missed a difficult chance on 25 – but he made the most of it, recovering from a difficult innings in the low 90s to take a quick single to reach his 12th Test century.
Shanto, who was positive from the start, kept the scoreboard ticking with his superb footwork and keen eye for the loose ball.
