Tom Latham, who scored 63 to guide New Zealand to victory in the third match on Friday, is out of action with a thumb injury.
Latham’s opening partner Devon Conway, captain Mitchell Santner, and fast bowler Lockie Ferguson are all unavailable for the final two matches of the series.
Wicketkeeper-batter Dane Cleaver has been recalled to the New Zealand squad for the first time since 2023, while batter Katene Clarke is set to make his debut, and Josh Clarkson has returned to the team. Jimmy Neesham will captain New Zealand.
South Africa has made two changes: off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been handed a debut opportunity, and Ottniel Baartman has been recalled. Seamers Nqobani Mokoena and Lutho Sipamla have been rested.
